I wish that all guitars were this well balanced, sonically speaking. All three selection options were useful in the fly. On occasion I've played guitars that were not balanced between single pickups and both pickups. The blend was pleasing when both pickups were selected. The sound was balanced well no matter which pickup(s) were selected. The amp I played through was a stock Excelsior. I didn't have the opportunity to play it at high volume but it didn't strike me as being feedback prone. The top is parallel braced and the braces seemed heavy. It's a very pleasant sound, not particularly Gretsch like, however. I really don't know of any guitar that has a directly comparable sound. The effect is warm and not particularly bright but not at all muddy. They are about halfway between the size of a Filtertron and a Gibson mini-humbucker. The pickups were Guild humbucking pickups of relatively narrow spool spacing. It was a transparent red and had a Bigsby style tailpiece. ![]() At the first stop I found a Guild Starfire III hanging on the wall. I drove into town today and visited several local music stores.
